As What If…? Season 3 nears its conclusion, with only two episodes remaining, expectations are soaring for Episode 6, particularly after the thrilling adventure with Riri Williams, Wong, Valkyrie, and more. The latest installment takes an exciting leap back in time, teaming up the legendary Shang-Chi with Kate Bishop.
This unlikely duo promises a fresh and captivating storyline, potentially elevating the season’s eclectic mix of genres. This time, Marvel ventures into uncharted territory with a Western drama – a bold and unexpected choice. But did it pay off? Read our review to find out!
Kate Bishop and Shang Chi Team Up!
Shang Chi and Kate Bishop was a duo we didn’t know we needed until we saw them in the Old West fighting off the bad guys in an action-packed opening sequence.
What If…? Season 3 Episode 6 is off to a strong start as the duo attempts to look for a person named The Hood, who has been abducting Chinese immigrants and destroying construction sites.

This latest installment goes heavy on the Western genre and honestly, it is very entertaining, especially witnessing Shang Chi and Kate in this element. Wearing cowboy hats, riding horses, beating up the bad guys – they do it all, and they do it extremely well as the duo rides off in hopes of finding the Hood.
Think less “What if” and more “What the hell” explains the Watcher after the opening credits roll, which truly sums up this entire series of Marvel Animation, which continues to push boundaries of the multiverse and alternate realities.
Episode 6 is yet another example but the focus is “injustice” which remains a constant in every universe as wisely put by the Watcher.

The Hood has been a menace to all, but ending him once and for all is personal for Shang Chi as he slowly loses any hope of finding his sister, who once attempted to take down the Hood.
As far as the narrative goes, this episode is one of the most gripping installments so far, and the action is top-notch. Plus, one can’t help but admit that Shang Chi and Kate Bishop need to do more movies and shows together!
Not only is this episode packed with action, but also emotions, making it one of the best episodes of What If…? so far. As Kate and Shang Chi continue their journey at the end of the episode the Watchers punish Uatu for breaking the rule of not intervening, and it will be interesting to see how this shapes the remaining two episodes of the season!
