If you are wondering whether you have reached the season finale of Sunny with Episode 8, we’d love to inform you that isn’t the case, as there are still a couple of episodes to go in this sci-fi series on Apple TV+.

In the previous episode, Suzie and Mixxy believed that they were close to finding Masa and Zen, but sadly, that wasn’t the case.

However, since there’s still some time left for Sunny to reach its conclusion, one can brace themselves for more twists and turns as Suzie continues to seek answers. In this article, you can read our review of Sunny Episode 8, and beware because there will be spoilers ahead!

A Glimpse in Masa’s Life

Sunny Episode 7 has a unique start and a new narrator, the old man who gave Suzie Sunny. This character hasn’t been around for most of the season but will play an important role in this episode.

Before the opening credits roll, the narrator, the old man from the end of the previous episode, talks about Ludwig Wittgenstein’s theory, “A Beetle in a Box.”

After the credits, it is evident that this episode will focus on Masa, from when he was a young boy, and tell his story. This is a moment viewers have been waiting for quite some time because while Masa has been mentioned plenty of times, he has been a bit of a question mark.

We catch a glimpse of Masa’s relationship with his mean and tough father, and a loving Noriko, who did everything she could to comfort Masa. However, after being rejected by his father even close to his death, Masa isolated himself completely, for 2.5 years, and that’s when Noriko calls a man for help.

It is also confirmed that he was a computer engineer who worked in fridges. That’s a relief, right? Well, turns out, it was only the beginning.

This man claims to be Masa’s biological father as he tells Masa the truth and introduces himself as, “Hiromasa.” This was more than enough to get Masa out of his cave and back into the real world.

Masa takes up the offer presented by Hiromasa and moves to a cabin, where he doesn’t have to interact with anyone, and soon, he finds a TrashBot built by Hiromasa and decides to make some improvements. This appears to be the beginning of Masa’s stint with homebots.

Masa eventually confronts his mother about the truth, whether or not her husband knew Masa wasn’t his which led to the animosity. After this, we snap back to the present time, where Suzie is devasted that Masa never told her the truth about his life.

This is the first time we see Suzie in Sunny Episode 8, where she also learns that Masa visited Hiromasa a few days before his flight, and likely knew that the Yakuza were after him.

Some episodes of Sunny have had bizarre endings, but this one tops it all. We are unsure whether the events escalating are happening in Suzie’s mind, but if not, at least Zen is alive, and there was a 4th GPS tracker that Suzie, Mixxy, and Hiromasa chased. This cliffhanger had us biting our nails!

Conclusion

We learned plenty about Masa in Sunny Episode 8, but at this point, there are more questions than answers and we’re desperately looking forward to what’s next. Make sure you check our website next week for our review of Episode 9!
