Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo’s journey continues in Love Next Door Episode 2 on Netflix. This latest K-drama has quickly found itself a spot in everyone’s heart as it beams with humor, chemistry, and chaos, a sure-shot recipe for success, and we’re hooked, as we mentioned in our review of Episode 1.

Things are progressing, especially for Seok-ryu, who has uprooted her entire life in the US and moved back to her hometown in Korea. The narrative moves forward seamlessly as she reunites with friends, family, and her next-door neighbor. Here’s our review of Love Next Door Episode 2, make sure you stick around until the end!

Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo Get Closer

Love Next Door Episode 2 starts with another flashback of Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo. The only thing is that they aren’t little kids, but instead, teenagers who go to school.

They also work part-time jobs, which Seok-ryu has appeared to drag Seung-hyo. This scene also reflects a sweet relationship between Seok-ryu and her mother, which also ends the flashback as the episode switches back to the present time, where Seok-ryu is sleeping in a storage room of sorts.

Things are still cold between Seok-ryu and her mother, cold enough that her mother refuses to let her eat after her daughter confirms that she wants to remain “happily unemployed” for a while. Seok-ryu is saved by the bell when Seung-hyo and her best friend, Jung Mo-eum, visit her.

Comedy is one of the most important elements of Love Next Door, and there’s plenty of it in Episode 2. One of the best scenes in this episode takes place partially in flashback when Seok-ryu and Seung-hyo narrate their own versions of how the two met, and how their friendship progressed.

The two versions are very different from each other, and neither of them shies away from making the other one look like a complete fool, and all of this happens in front of Seung-hyo’s employees.

While there’s no romance between our protagonists just yet, the story arc is forming perfectly, and one can often anticipate what happens next, but there’s certainly never a dull moment.

Love Next Door Episode 2 does a stellar job of building the story while also giving plenty of context to fill in any gaps. If there’s a big question, this K-drama doesn’t want the viewers to wait forever. For example, Episode 2 explains the real reason why Seok-ryu left her life in the US.

She was burnt out and needed help coping but her fiance wasn’t available, and when she finally found him, he was at a party kissing another girl. One can’t help but feel for Seok-ryu as she rides the bus in her hometown, over and over again, with no destination in mind.

Meanwhile, Seung-hyo remains as charming as ever, this Netflix K-drama is checking off all the boxes so far!

There were some emotional moments in Love Next Door Episode 2, all thanks to Seok-ryu and her now complex relationship with her mother, who can’t stand the thought of people gossiping about her daughter’s failed engagement, and for that, she is ready to send Seok-ryu back to the US, and that includes pushing her suitcase down the stairs.

Seung-hyo doesn’t witness every detail, but when he does, one can see that despite all the playfulness between the two, he cares.

The episode ends on a sweet note, opening doors, or in the case, windows, for love, and plenty more. Seok-ryu and her mother are also on the path of mending things, and what more could one have asked for?
