Directed by Yoo Je-won and written by Shin Ha-eun, Love Next Door is Netflix’s latest K-drama, and all the hype right now. Netflix has become the perfect pit stop for anyone and everyone who loves K-drama, whether it is seasoned fans or people ready to dip their toes into the popular genre, and Love Next Door is yet another great addition.
Unlike most series on the streaming platform, K-dramas tend to release two episodes over the weekend, giving fans enough to enjoy, and something to look forward to.
In this article, we will share our review of Love Next Door Episode 1, so make sure you stick around until the end!
Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo Reunite!
Wait a minute, before we talk about the actual episode, one must pay attention to the opening credits of Love Next Door. A whimsical background tune paired with a scrapbook to introduce the cast members, it truly is a wholesome start to the series, and more than enough to make you grab your blanket, tuck yourself in, and watch Episode 1.

The series is off to a strong and hilarious start. Kegel exercises, prune juice cleanse, and two mothers bragging about their extremely successful children, are only the tip of the iceberg. The scene also introduces the protagonists of Love Next Door, Bae Seok-ryu and Choi Seung-hyo.
Seok-ryu and Seung-hyo are both incredibly different from each other, despite the personal success they have found in their lives.
In this episode, Seok-ryu finds her way back to Korea after spending many years in the US, and it is also revealed that she was a childhood friend…of sorts, with Seung-hyo.
However, Seok-ryu’s family is unaware of her return back home, and she does everything possible to avoid them, of course, her knight in shining armor is none other than Seung-hyo.

As soon as their eyes land on each other after what one can assume has been years, it’s like time stands still for a moment, until we’re introduced to a potential enemies-to-lovers arc.
Seok-ryu looks like a spoilt brat with reckless decision-making as a personality trait, and Seung-hyo appears to be a goody two shoes. However, it might be too soon to judge them from just the first episode.
It is safe to say that Love Next Door Episode 1 has plenty of chaos, but at the same time, it gives plenty of context into what viewers can expect from the upcoming episodes, and most importantly, the chemistry between Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu already has us hooked, and it’s only the beginning.

Seok-ryu has called off her engagement, quit her job, left the US, and moved back home to an extremely disappointed and angry set of parents. Luckily, she had Seung-hyo to protect her, even though that was the last thing he wanted to do.
The comedy, mixed with character arcs forming, and of course, let’s not forget an angry Korean mother, all put together made for an extremely entertaining pilot episode for Love Next Door, and we’re eager to see what’s in store for Seung-hyo, Seok-ryu, and the supporting characters of this K-drama.
