Episode 4 of Lady in the Lake came with plenty of twists and turns, paired with a shocking cliffhanger, and one would have to wait patiently for the next episode, given Apple TV+’s weekly schedule for its series.

Nevertheless, that moment is here and the title of Lady in the Lake Episode 5 is intimidating enough, which only leaves room for more intrigue as far as the episode goes.

“Every time someone turns up dead in that lake, it does seem to lead to you,” is the title of the episode, and while the first four episodes of the series focused on establishing Maddie and Cleo’s lives, Episode 5 takes an interesting turn.

Does Maddie Solve the Mystery Behind Cleo’s Disappearance?

Lady in the Lake Episode 5 starts with a flashback, much like some of the other episodes, with a focus on Maddie and her affair with Hal Durst, Allan’s father, who was also Maddie’s ex-boyfriend.

In addition, it was also revealed that Maddie was pregnant with his child, but the whereabouts of the child, or even if she had it is a big question mark before the opening credits roll.

Back in the present time, Maddie and Milton sit down in a diner for a coffee, and one can predict what this conversation might be about, if you guessed divorce, then you would be right.

Oftentimes, Maddie’s storyline feels a little conventional and unoriginal, but despite that, some moments make you want to stick around and watch the series unfold.

Milton serves Maddie the divorce papers on grounds of abandonment while also letting her know that her son doesn’t feel safe with her. There’s only one question Maddie has for Milton, and that’s whether or not she will get any alimony.

Later, very little is revealed about Cleo’s situation, but Maddie is made aware of her disappearance and decides to dive straight into the case, just like she did with Tessie Durst, and this sets the on its intended track in some ways.

Maddie is desperate for some answers and just as desperate to get herself a big story and byline, and she is convinced that can be found in Cleo’s supposed death.

Eventually, Maddie lands up at her funeral after she is shown the door at The Afro, the newspaper that was previously covering Cleo’s story. No matter how hard she tries, Maddie continues to hit dead ends.

Eventually, Maddie visits Ms. Zawadzkie, Stephan’s mother, to figure out if he was involved in Cleo’s death, but what starts off as a polite and friendly conversation, soon turns into Maddie’s worst nightmare after she is stabbed in the stomach.

The physical altercation between the two leaves one dead, and another severely injured, but one can only hope that Maddie gets the help she needs.
