According to reports, Netflix boasts an impressive 88 Polish movies and series, with the latest addition being the series Hound’s Hill. Over the years, the platform has successfully expanded its global offerings beyond the US, providing opportunities for filmmakers worldwide. Poland, in particular, has emerged as a notable contributor, and for good reason.
Hound’s Hill follows the life of a famous writer Mikolaj who returns to his hometown due to unfortunate circumstances. This title is a brilliant start of Polish series and movies in 2025, and here’s our review which will help you decide whether or not this series deserves a spot on your watchlist!
Unpredictable Twists and Turns!
The opening sequence of Hound’s Hill’s pilot episode is instantly captivating, making it clear that you’ll want to see the five-episode series through to the end.
The episode begins with haunting folk music and ominous narration, as a mysterious woman sets the tone for a tragic tale that promises a devastating conclusion, drawing you in from the very start.
We’re then taken back 18 years where two men are in a car and the protagonist, Mikolaj throws up after the car is pulled over. He’s visibly in distress and claims it’s because his girlfriend, Daria, dumped him, but clearly, there’s more to the story.
Soon enough it is revealed that Daria’s body was found in the woods after she was brutally murdered. Mikolaj is devasted, and this event sets the premise for the series before we shift back to the present day.
Now, Mikolaj has grown up and is a popular writer, and decides to return to his hometown for some closure, along with his wife. However, it doesn’t take long for this visit to spiral as old secrets come back to haunt the writer.
Hound’s Hill is compelling from the start and manages to keep up the intrigue with a stellar pace to hold the viewer’s attention.
Mikolaj’s complex relationship with his estranged family, especially his father, is one of the key elements of the series, and while it raises many questions, Hound’s Hill does an effortless job of answering those questions in the following episodes and making sure all loose ends are tied with plenty of suspense to keep you on the edge of the seat.
It isn’t until the final episode of the series where Mikolaj is faced with the truth about Daria’s death, but every moment leading up to this is filled with unexpected twists which led Mikolaj and his wife to extend their stay in this small town.
It might not have been the best decision, but it led us to stream Hound’s Hill, so we would say it was worth it!
Conclusion
Hound’s Hill masterfully weaves together a complex tapestry of themes, including justice, secrets, love, and death, solidifying its place as a gripping dark suspense thriller. This Polish production is yet another testament to the country’s thriving talent, and we have Netflix to thank for bringing it to our screens.
