David Lynch, the visionary filmmaker whose surreal and unsettling works like “Blue Velvet,” “Mulholland Drive,” and “Twin Peaks” redefined the boundaries of American cinema, has passed away at the age of 78.   

Lynch’s family announced his death on his official Facebook page, stating,

“It is with deep regret that we, his family, announce the passing of the man and the artist, David Lynch.”

The cause of death has not been made public; however, in 2024, Lynch shared that he had been diagnosed with emphysema.

Born in Missoula, Montana in 1946, Lynch initially pursued painting before turning his attention to filmmaking.
