If you have been a fan of young adult mystery books, then chances are you have already read Holly Jackson’s debut novel, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, which was first published in 2019.
And if you were a fan of Jackson’s work, then Netflix has a treat for you, an entire series adapted from a literary source. Shocking? Not really. However, it’s still a treat!
When the streaming platform first announced A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, followed by a captivating trailer, we were hooked and excited for what was to come, and let’s just say, we’re not disappointed.
Albeit, we will explore more of that in this review, so if you’re still wondering if this series belongs on your watchlist, keep reading!
Emma Myers Delivers a Classy and Intriguing Performance
To begin with, we have to talk about the star of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder, aka Emma Myers, who plays the role of Pip Fitz-Amobi. Myers isn’t new to Netflix, in fact, she has played some big roles in the popular series Wednesday, and the 2023 movie, Family Switch.
However, this time around she was set to take center stage, and it is safe to say that she delivered.

We have to admit, the pilot episode of the series was good enough to introduce us to Pip, but it wasn’t good enough to have us as hooked as we expected, but we were adamant about not giving up on A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder right off the bat, and it’s safe to say that sticking around was a good decision.
Although this series only has 6 parts to it, it doesn’t feel like a breeze very often, so if there’s one thing we can recommend, is to keep all your expectations and predictions about the series aside before you start streaming it.
6 episodes of A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder are best described as a slow burn, one that takes a little while to get engrossed into, but once you’re there, you will want to stay.

The premise of the series is strong, and if you have read the book, you kind of already know what to expect, but it essentially revolves around Pip solving a murder mystery.
There’s a catch though. Pip as a character is actually more interesting than the entire premise, and she carries the entire should on her little shoulders, which means the winner is Myers, which shouldn’t come as a shock.
Myers takes over the character in an effortless manner, and it often feels like they are the same person. She is the reason A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder will receive the viewership that it does, and rightfully so. Of course, the set design, the colors, and the music also added to the quality of the series, but it’s best to keep your expectations low!

Conclusion
A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder was a success for us because of Emma Myers’ splendid performance in all 6 episodes, we just couldn’t keep our eyes off, and we would love to know in the comments if you are in the same boat as us!
