Kendrick Lamar’s Not Like Us was a chart-topping sensation in 2024, also sparking controversy as a scathing diss track aimed at rapper Drake. The longstanding feud between Lamar and Drake has escalated, with Drake now taking legal action by filing a defamation lawsuit against Universal Music Group.

This move marks a significant development in the high-profile rivalry, which continues to captivate the music world. The allegations against Universal Music Group regarding Not Like Us and Lamar have been circulating on social media, and by the looks of it, their implications may even become a case study in law schools someday!

Drake Takes Legal Action!

Looks like the feud between Kendrick Lamar and Drake isn’t coming to an end any time soon, and we don’t mean another diss track, but instead a lawsuit. Defamation lawsuits have almost become too common after the highly publicized trial between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard. Will Lamar and Drake be next to make it into the courtroom? Time will tell.

For now, the focus remains on the allegations against Universal Music Group following Drake’s lawsuit which has caused quite a stir on social media platforms as people share their thoughts on the same. This lawsuit is aimed at UMG and the song, with little mention of Lamar.

The lawsuit claimed,

“It is entirely about UMG, the music company that decided to publish, promote, exploit, and monetize allegations that it understood were not only false but dangerous.”

According to the lawsuit, Not Like Us’ release led to several consequences for the rapper including his reputation being completely tarnished. Frankly, this entire lawsuit feels a little too familiar to the ongoing lawsuit in Hollywood involving A-listers.

Drake’s lawsuit against UMG was filed in New York federal court, and more developments will be made as time passes by.

In a statement to USA Today, a spokesperson for UMG said,

Not only are these claims untrue, but the notion that we would seek to harm the reputation of any artist — let alone Drake — is illogical.  We have invested massively in his music and our employees around the world have worked tirelessly for many years to help him achieve historic commercial and personal financial success.
